Decoding and re-envisioning

human cerebrovascular disease.

RESEARCH

The vascular anomalies and stroke computation (vasc) lab is led by Dr. Ethan Winkler, MD, PhD, with a goal to understand the genetic and cellular mechanisms that regulate the structure and function of the brain’s vasculature in health and disease. Using our unique access to the human brain and emerging genomic, stem cell and bioengineering technologies, we are focused on decoding gene programs that drive various causes of human stroke. To translate these findings back to the clinic, the lab is also developing new technologies, such as endovascular biopsy and focused ultrasound, to identify and deliver next generation precision-based therapeutics to the human cerebrovasculature. By using this comprehensive strategy to determine and target functional programs in the cerebrovasculature, we ultimately seek to advance our approach and treatment of vascular malformations, aneurysms, and related disorders.
